In Japan, 99.9% of people are still wearing them and not just Japanese but non-Japanese too. The propaganda to wear them is relentless. I find it oppressive. Looking forward to reading Ian Miller's book. Thanks for the tip.

Haven't seen the videos because I want to answer without hearing your answers first to see how close I get it.

1) Why face masks create the illusion that the average bloke supports them

You can't as easily determine one's satisfaction/mood with a mask covering all but their eyes. The eyes can convey a lot of information and quickly but not to the same extent the entire face can working as a whole. Body language includes facial expression.

2) How the psychology of face masks asymmetrically pushes people to wear them

Humans by nature seek to be accepted, to belong to the group. As we become adults this tends to refine into wanting to be accepted by or belong to the group that we perceive to be the majority. As teens its more about belonging but not necessarily to the majority or the popular clique. There are exceptions to this such as religion and politics but when not dealing with intensely personal issues like those the average human seeks to be aa part of the majority and since the masks were mandated the perception is that the majority agreed with it because most were not resisting and those that were not happy with it could not be identified because of #1.

It is this desire to belong that is used to manipulate the public. if one has the ability to control what influences the publics perception, tv/radio, newspapers pre-internet age, social media today, than they can create false perception of what is the majority.
