"Language is central to what we know to be human so how did we possibly get by for millions of years as smart hominids without it?" From Expressly Human by Mark Changizi & Tim Barber
I would say (without having read any further in the book) that it was not that hard to get by because as hominids we cared only about survival and procreation and thus a structured spoken language was unnecessary to meet those goals. It was only once we developed and sought to do more than survive/procreate that our goals demanded something more than emotional expressions.
I recently corresponded with Carissa Carlson (after your appearance on her podcast) and she was kind enough to send me a copy of your book.
I'd say so buffoons have tremendous resources with enormous hubris, and their buffooness can be particularly detrimental to society because the influence they sway.

Excellent Mark!
Buffoons all the way up...agree almost entirely.
