Is the Department of Energy’s suggestion that “Lab Leak Most Likely” a head fake?

So, the a priori most probable and least conspiratorial hypothesis for the origins of Covid is only now the favored hypothesis by the administration.

The Department of Energy suggests that the full evidence now favors a lab leak, and many on my anti-Lockdown side are saying this is a head fake, deflecting us away from the real truth.

Now, I don’t know if it’s lab leak or was spreading for a year or more before 2020, but as a head fake this would amount to an admission of having engaged in one of the greatest crimes against humanity ever witnessed on Earth.

That is to say, if the Department of Energy claims are true, then it immediately implies that officials funded gain of function research, accidentally released it, covered this up, and proceeded to violate civil liberties, informed consent and free speech en masse in a historically unprecedented fashion.

So, I don’t find it plausible that it’s a head fake. Crimes against humanity isn’t a good look.

Whether the virus leaked from a Wuhan lab or was already in circulation for some time doesn’t change the fact that the virus was mild for all but the very old or with many comorbidities, something that was known by early March of 2020.

But the issue is important because

(1) open discussion about it was quelled

(2) if it was a leak, then the people responsible for the medical tyranny hid their responsibility for the very “pandemic” they were “saving” us from (a crime against humanity)

(3) if, however, it had already been in circulation for some time, then the draconian and harmful interventions were even more asinine, for it wasn’t merely a mild virus, but one whose inception was a year or more beforehand, and the intervention-induced deaths and harms are even clearer to see (and so a crime against humanity)

(And… (2) and (3) could BOTH be true.)
