“My Persian family has lived through this kind of thing in Iran, but most of us in the U.S. have not. Not at this scale, at least. It’s incredibly frustrating, mostly because most people are utterly unable to see it. And so *you’re* the crazy one. The same forces that scream at a woman for not wearing a head scarf and how obvious is it that women should wear head scarves and you’re ruining men and society and are a whore and what is wrong with you etc etc hit all of us here under the guise of a pandemic.
Quebec and France are terribly interesting cases for social analysis on this topic. In Quebec, the EXACT SAME activists who are against religious face coverings (which I agree with on principle) are also demanding everyone use germ-thoroughfare-cloth-masks. That virtue-signallers would be for mandatory community "masking" / veiling, I can sort of understand, but when my secularist activist friends bow down to religious veiling against germs, I am left with dangling arms (as we say in French). I don't know if in France if it's the same clientele, if the activists against religious displays are also FOR religious "health" displays... would be worth further study.
For me, the rule of thumb is this: If you're going to be a cop, and the cop job requires a cop hat, you wear the cop hat. End of story, no exceptions. Once we start making exceptions for one religion, we have to make it for all religions. True secularism is the most liberating form of social interactions.
Propaganda is back in many European countries, too many covid vax bought by Ursula (Brussels' EU big boss) have to be inoculated, it seems. FYI: von der Leyen had exchanged calls and texts with Pfizer Chief Executive Albert Bourla.

The difference is the head scarf has centuries of cultural tradition and the masks are imposed de-novo by the regime.
