Conservatism Without Caution
Another disturbing dimension of the Right’s new cancel culture is that it abandons not only free speech, but also the very conservative principles conservatives once championed. Traditionally, conservatism valued restraint, due process, and the recognition that mobs are dangerous precisely because they short-circuit careful judgment.
But now, as with #MeToo, the accusation itself is treated as conviction. On the Left, the problem was the presumption that a charge was enough to ruin someone. On the Right, the pattern is similar: a screenshot, a post, a clip pulled from context is enough to end a career. Yes, often the evidence looks unambiguous—there’s a video, or a public statement. But even “unambiguous” can be faked, or stripped of its context, or misinterpreted by the mob in the heat of outrage.
This isn’t conservative. It’s the opposite of conservative. It’s mob rule, clothed in the trappings of principle, but without the caution, the skepticism, and the respect for institutional process that used to define the Right.
IMO, wokeism is when your social history is searched, sometimes many years back, for comments that are currently politically incorrect.
IMO, with the firing of teachers and others for expressing joy and triumph for Charlie Kirks death: this reaction is totally different than searching the past.
I'm biased because I think the left killed the exact person we need right now to come closer together. I think that the left did not know that the Charlie Kirk murder would arouse such sympathy and anger. Of course the left regards this murder as a "green light", and as a starting point for further conservative murders, and has communicated this belief very clearly to the world.
"Intetesting times" (in the sense that this comment could be construed as a curse) are in the future, if the left continues in this vein. Globalists (and its my belief that much of this division is deliberately sought after by them) really dont have a functional upper limit- they may believe that they might even be able to "ride out" a nuclear war, in their bunkers underground. Everyone else would die, and its clear after the covid operation that this is exactly what is desired.
