Sounds like academia has similar problems to our government. Elected reps spends way too much time/effort on doing things to secure re-election than doing what the job was created for.
This is where term limits would do wonders but is unlikely to EVER happen b/c the number of Reps/Senators needed to get something like that passed is greater than those in power with resources will allow. Currently its far more cost effective to purchase a Senator or Rep who is in it for life then to keep having to re-acquire someone new every X years. Yes I look at government corruption like you would business because that's how those behind it do. Purchasing political favors is an investment.

Sabine may have come to realization (you have) about academia but she also is now more concerned about Climate Change so a win and a loss.
