Occurred to me today that — although it’s implicit in the book — by virtue of explaining how to translate back and forth between negotiation (in, say, English) and non-verbal emotional expressions (and bets), much of what we unemotionally say in language IS emotional expression. We use language, sure, but we’re basically employing it in the same negotiation / emotional-expression channels we evolved to ably do.
We’re not merely explaining emotional expressions in the book. We’re claiming that much of human language interaction itself falls into the same category, with the same “calculus.”
