"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
- Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Inaugural Address, March 4, 1933
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
- Pres. John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961
Imagine, if you will, the world in January, 2020 was met with a speech by an American president who called upon those historic proclamations about the cause of freedom and liberty in the face of fear of infectious disease that was growing about (Fake?) news spreading from Wuhan, China. How what we knew as normal back then would still seem normal. And life since would seem like a Twilight Zone episode. For those of us who didn't lose our senses it does seem like the Twilight Zone.
