Top-down, bottom-up: Neither are what collective hysteria is about

Once the collective psychosis was under way, there were bottom-up and top-down forces everywhere. But bottom-up and top-down aren’t even the right candidates for explaining why there was a collective psychosis in the first place. Here I explain why.
