A “private part” taboo where our genitalia are covered is something society can live with.
But a “private part” taboo where our faces, emotional expressions, and only breathing and eating holes are covered is not something society can live with.

Truly the best thing about the Canadian trucker convoy was seeing faces, glorious, mask free faces, I still lived in a province demanding face masks(until June actually) but back in Feb when the convoy folks, went mask less- I girded my courage and went mask less - I recall distinctly the sense of “disapproval I felt” but I decided if the folks in Ottawa could dance in the streets by the thousands without masks, then surely I could remove my mask- and I am an adult who knew perfectly well the mask was virtuously useless -still because of social stigma I complied -amazing thank you for the article!

Yes, when they criminalized the sharing of smiles we knew exactly who these people were. Smiles dangerous?!?!? Only sociopaths would dare insist upon that?!?! Their masks dropped when they demanded we put them on us.
