THAT natural selection explains the diversity of life versus HOW exactly natural selection manages to do it
The woke Right is now meh about natural selection
On evidence that natural selection explains the diversity of life on Earth, a key point many miss is that one can be radically confident that X is the mechanism underlying some phenomenon B without being very clear about how exactly X in fact manages to do B.
For example, we are sure that the brain is the mechanism underlying our thinking, but we are still very mystified at how the brain actually engenders all this thinking and experiencing we do.
And it doesn’t take a computer scientist to 100% conclude that my computer is the mechanism that allows these letters I’m now typing to appear before me. But it does take a computer scientist to understand how my computer manages to make this happen.
The general point is that figuring out “that X is the mechanism for B” is a radically simpler problem than figuring out “how X works as a mechanism for B.” This is so obvious, and yet easy to overlook.
Showing THAT natural selection is the mechanism of life has an astronomically lower bar than showing exactly HOW natural selection does it.
Indeed. What you describe is EXACTLY the argument creationists use to ostensibly "debunk" scientific explanations for, well, everything. Because I cannot explain HOW, it must not be THAT. Elementary lack of logic, which, frankly, should not surprise me. #SorryNotSorry
