Mark - You seem to be misinformed as to the meaning of the word "agnostic". It has nothing to do with one's opinion regarding the probability that God exists. In the context of religious belief, "agnostic" just means that whether God exists is unkown or unknowable.
Nevertheless, you are right in saying that the word is commonly misused. People who say they are agnostic usually mean that they do not believe in God, or that they have little faith in God's existence.
