Radical Islam and Communism
In spite of their surface differences, there are deeper similarities. ...which also helps explain why they so often align.
(1) Collectivist:
Communism: class solidarity.
Radical Islam: loyalty to ummah.
Both: “us vs. them.” Common enemies—capitalists, secular regimes, Western influences.
(2) Utopian:
Communism: classless, stateless society.
Radical Islam: caliphate under Sharia law.
Offer purpose, meaning. Appeal to the disillusioned.
(3) Empowerment of the Marginalized
Communism: workers vs. capitalism.
Radical Islam: Muslims under threat.
Both empower, offer belonging. A righteous cause.
(4) Revolutionary Zeal and Authoritarian Tendencies
Communism: Overthrowing capitalism.
Radical Islam: Overthrowing secular states.
Leads to authoritarianism. Revolutionary zeal turns to control.
(5) Moral Absolutism and the Cosmic Battle of Good vs. Evil
Communists: capitalism = evil.
Radical Islamists: infidels, secularism = evil.
Good vs. evil. Absolutism inspires loyalty.
Mark…I just spent money on you so that I could respond on this issue of Radical Islam.
You have things a bit turned around on islam. For over 2 decades I have read the koran multiple times, recite Hadiths back to muslims, debate theology with them regularly and their history and archaeological discoveries. What you characterize as radical is in fact, fundamental understanding of surah and sunnah.
When you devote time to read up on Mohammed’s words and deeds and in light of the Quarish culture it is rooted from, you see an entirely different islamic culture and what is driving it’s growth and I have news for you, it does not bode well for Christians and Jews. In the end, nobody for that matter.
