On Westsplaining Islam to Muslims

What Muslim-haters don’t grasp is how malleable ancient texts are. You can justify almost anything with them if you’re motivated enough.

Scientists—working with rigorous data, formal methods, and shared standards—still disagree fiercely and endlessly about interpretation. So imagine what happens when half-cocked thinkers start “interpreting” half-cocked ancient texts written for utterly different worlds.

The text isn’t the driver. The interpreter is.

But sure — Western keyboard warriors have apparently cracked the One True Reading of Islamic scripture and are now Westsplaining to Muslims that ackshyually, the ancient texts command X… and if you don’t comply, you “aren’t really Muslim.” Amazing stuff.
