On UTIs, falls and Covid
It was laughable that we should be frightened by a virus having a 5% IFR for those 80 years old with comorbidites. For such folks, a urinary tract infection has that fatality rate.
Or a fall. Which is exactly what face masks make much more likely, as I discussed in Moment 52 in 2020, my first of more than 400 episodes since COVID.
This one is excellent. I have never seen so many people fall in public as I did during the mask mandates. A couple of those falls were particularly brutal and I think of those stranger sometimes, wondering if they ever healed properly. For a long time, Germany required either the FFP2 or medical masks as part of its mandate, and the duck bill masks seemed to make people particularly vulnerable to falls.
I also wonder how many deaths caused by falls were reclassified as covid deaths—those long hospital stays from a broken hip that used to lead to pneumonia and death in the elderly. It would have all been named covid…
