Intelligent design is the 3rd option/explanation for mankind's development, for the creation and rise of the homo-sapiens as the dominant species of the planet. There is absolutely NO way uninterrupted natural evolution lead to where we are today.
The idea of some mystical creature in the clouds creating mankind is the anti-creationism crowds juvenile take/rebuttal on what Christians and other religions believe. You need not be a Christian or any other any other faith that believes in a higher power to see and acknowledge that our evolution was not purely natural. If evolution was uninterrupted there should be numerous examples both fossilized and even alive today of where evolution took the wrong direction and produced an imperfect version of not only homo-sapiens but all species. What we see now and have found via fossils does not align with the idea of pure uninterrupted evolution unless you believe that evolution NEVER makes any mistakes, never goes down the wrong path.
