I am Shadow Banned at Twitter
Hidden tweets. 50 times fewer likes & retweets. Follower count falling.
Before the door could even hit @jack on his way out, the new CEO, Parag Agrawal seems to have taken a new strategy to censoring enemies of The Safety.
Simultaneous with this shift in command, my own Twitter account has been, in many respects, effectively frozen to death.
If you don’t follow me (or maybe even if you do), if you search on me, while my backup account comes up as one begins typing my name, my main account — @markchangizi — does not.
One must type the full name in, and hit return, at which point my account shows up in a list of irrelevant (given the search) accounts.
And, mine is helpfully labeled as “sensitive content.”
If you dare click on it. You get to this page below…
And if you actually click on it to follow me — or even if you’re one of my long time followers — you see this in your timeline…
Whereas it used to be that I might get several hundred likes and retweets in a half hour or hour, now I can be gone half the day and there’s only a dozen interactions.
And whereas I might gain 50 or so followers per day, now it’s stagnant and dropping.
The image below shows a network via https://whosban.eu.org indicating a “problem” with my account. (See also https://hisubway.online/shadowban/)
And unlike a suspension where they inform you that you have violated their made-up terms, here they don’t even let you know it happened. (That’s the ‘shadow’.)
That’s particularly unethical.
For any public accommodation to censor is unethical.
To do it in collaboration with the federal government is worse.
To do it without informing you is surely a violation of their own terms, I’d bet. Did we seriously agree that they can pretend to be showing our content to people but not actually be?!
The only up side is that, if I am to be functionally suspended, I’d rather not lose my interlinking network of tweets and contacts, which is part of my — and your — extended brain, as I discussed here…
And now you know why I “went missing” at Twitter.
At any rate, I am at many places besides Twitter. Thanks to all of you for following me here at Substack.
I am waiting for the Stalinists at Twitter to lose their market cap rapidly and all their money.
