Disinformation eventually extinguishes itself
Misinformation is part of the process of finding the truth. After all, in any debate, at most one side is right. Through open discussion — and rising and falling reputations — society converges toward the truth in a decentralized manner.
Disinformation, albeit unethical, is handled even more easily than misinformation. Lies are practically impossible to keep afloat, exposed liars quickly lose much or all of their reputation, and are forever ignored.
Disinformation handled by centralized “fact checker” mechanisms is a quick path to tyranny, for what happens when these fact checkers are engaged in disinformation?
