Beware asking the State to be “safe” from something, including illegal immigration
I don’t see the Right quite noticing that tension:
When you agitate for tougher immigration, be careful—you might just “win,” and the state will roll out the solutions it trusts most: ones that violate civil liberties while expanding its own power. A universal ID system is the classic example: effective at enforcement, but disastrous for freedom.
If you dare ask government to “keep us safe,” you also have to say, in the same breath, what measures you accept.
For immigration, that means emphasizing liberty-consistent options like tougher borders, reformed legal entry, and employer accountability.
Otherwise, you won’t get safety—you’ll get surveillance.
