A Letter for When Your Friends Purge You

A friend attends a once-a-month social club, and has been for many many years. They now will require a vax pass.

Here’s a letter I fashioned for my friend.

“Respectfully, I will no longer be attending the meetings due to your intrusion in the personal business of others. The decision to vaccinate is a consensual one between each individual and his or her doctor.

Furthermore, the following observations undermine any logic even behind the authoritarian and unethical decision you have made.

(1) Vaccinated people have some significant degree of protection. Why some should feel vulnerable AFTER receiving a vaccination is best described as a psychosis.

(2) Vaccinated people at older age brackets (about 40+) spread the delta variant significantly more than do those who have no immunity at all [a,b].

(3) For those who have gotten and recovered from Covid like me, (i) we have much greater and longer protection than via a vaccination [c], and (ii) we have sterilizing immunity, meaning we are much less likely to get infected and transmit it, whereas the vaccine does not slow transmission.

(4) Furthermore, for those who have gotten and recovered from Covid, there are greater risks to vaccinations, and little to no benefits.

I am sorry that you have made what is an ill-advised decision, one stemming from irrational stigmas.

I had hoped that our community could more easily recognize the signs of dangerous groupthink and righteous discrimination against an “unclean enemy.” Those without vaccinations are scapegoats, blamed without reason for the failure of the myriad draconian interventions.

These are the same sorts of psycho-societal forces underlying the great totalitarianisms, and I am ashamed that you are not only blind to it, but are active players in it.”
